Parents want to give their kids memories that will last a lifetime during the holidays. These memories don’t have to come from gifts. Most young ones enjoy a few thoughtful gifts and family experiences. Spend quality time with your kids this holiday season doing activities they will remember for years to come!
Get Cozy For Movie Night
Make a bag of popcorn and get cozy by your fireplace for a movie night! Let your kids pick out a few of their favorite Christmas movies and watch them as a family. Your kids will love watching their favorite movies with mom and dad right there with them. It’s a great way to relax and have quality family time during the hectic holiday season.
Gingerbread House Decorating Night
Let your kids’ creativity shine decorating a gingerbread house. Gather everyone around the kitchen table, give them their gingerbread house, and let them go to work. If you want to make it easier for you, we recommend buying boxed gingerbread houses. These are better for kids who just want to begin decorating with the frosting and candy. However, if you do buy boxed gingerbread houses, make sure you get extra candy. Get your kids’ favorite candy and watch them have fun creating their masterpieces!
Decorate Christmas Sugar Cookies
When you begin to bake those delicious Christmas cookies, bake a few sugar cookies for your kids to decorate. After you pull them out of the oven and you make the frosting, let your kids become the chefs. Use your homemade frosting, sprinkles, and other favorite cookie toppings. One thing we do recommend is to use white frosting with Christmas sprinkles. This will make your kids’ creative cookies festive. Of course, leave at least one for Santa.
Decorate The Christmas Tree
There’s something special about decorating a Christmas tree together. It’s a Christmas tradition many families have adopted over the years. This year, put on your favorite Christmas playlist and spend some quality time with each other decorating your tree. Turn your little ones into elves as they help you put the lights on the tree. Odds are, you probably have an abundance of ornaments. Let your kids hang their ornaments on the tree (with supervision) to help complete the look of your Christmas tree. There’s no question this tradition will last for generations to come!
Elf On The Shelf
One of the most well-known Christmas traditions for kids is Elf on the Shelf. Using a fun, decorative elf, explain to your kids this elf will report to Santa each night to let him know whether or not they have been nice or naughty. After his nightly visit to Santa, he comes back to the house in a new spot. This means it’s up to you to help the elf find a new resting spot in the house. Your kids will have a fun time trying to locate the elf each morning. Elf on the Shelf is a great way to bring smiles and Christmas spirit into your home throughout the holiday season!
Track Santa Claus
On Christmas Eve, start a new tradition that your kids will absolutely love - tracking Santa Claus! With a little help from NORAD, families now have a way to track Santa’s every move as he delivers those presents. It brings excitement and a little bit of anticipation to the kids as they can see Santa slowly approach their hometown. Parents, you can use this as a way to get your kids to go to bed. Every kid knows they need to be asleep before Santa Claus arrives!
For kids, the holiday season is a time of excitement. It doesn’t always mean presents and going out with friends. Spending quality time with your kids is a gift they will treasure forever. If you need some Christmas decorating tips, we have you covered here!
