History of Sweetest Day

Sweetest Day is one of the more recent holidays that people like to celebrate in more than half of the American states. On every third Saturday of October, people spread acts of kindness to their companions or friends.

According to History.com, Sweetest Day originated in Cleveland, Ohio in 1921 by a committee of 12 candy makers. The committee distributed over 20,000 boxes of candy to orphans, the poor, and the elderly. For advertising efforts, this was called "The Sweetest Day in the Year". The candy distributing and donations were done as good deeds to give back to others.

Although originating as a holiday of giving back, it is now evolved to giving candy or gifts to loved ones. It remains a day for doing something nice for the people around you whether friendly or romantically.
